Regional UIL Academic Results


Here are the UIL students who placed (earned points) at regional UIL academics, and the ones advancing to state.

News Writing: Makenzie Cornett 1st place, Cassidy Nutt 6th place
Feature Writing: Casandra Bartram 3rd place, Jeanette Acker 4th place
Editorial Writing: Michelle Hochstein 2nd place, Kendra Huseman 6th place
Headline Writing: Makenzie Cornett 6th place

Makenzie, Casandra, Michelle all advance to state and Nazareth won the regional journalism team championship.

Persuasive Speaking: Adan Pena 1st place
Informative Speaking: Evan Murray 3rd place
Prose: Adan Pena 6th place

Adan and Evan advance to state in the two speaking events.

 

Area 1 CDE Judging Results


Several Nazareth FFA members competed at the Area 1 CDE judging contest in Lubbock on Saturday April 9th.  They competed in judging events including Poultry, Dairy Foods, Dairy Cattle, Horse and Livestock.  The horse team, consisting of Haley Birkenfeld (1st overall), Logan Robb (7th overall), Riley Huseman (14th overall), Lenzie Loudder, Lane Birkenfeld and Treva Ramsey, won the contest by a large margin and will compete at the State FFA Horse Judging Contest on April 16 in Lubbock.  Haley also won a $500 scholarship from Texas Tech University for being high individual.  The livestock team placed 9th at the contest and 6th in the area and will also compete at state in College Station on May 7. The team members are Terrell Heard (8th overall), Carl Huseman (14th overall), Taylor Bradley, Briann Wethington, and Abby Heard.  The Dairy Cattle team placed 6th in area and missed advancing to state by 20 points.  The team members are Braden Wethington (17th overall), Erin Wales, Erin Murray, Brett Braddock and Brian Acker.  The Poultry team placed 9th at area with Lance Myrick, Daniel Kern, Cale Wilehlm and Trey Farris.  Dairy Foods also competed at the area contest and placed 12th overall.  The team members are Alex Nestek, Samantha Kleman, Macy Smith and Kyla Acker.  There were over 800 students from all over the Texas panhandle who competed at the Area CDE judging contest, and Nazareth was well represented.  Congrats to all the students who competed last weekend and good luck to the students who advanced to state.
